About Oliver

From an early age Oliver moved around New Zealand with his parents. This continued in his adult life when he lived and worked in Australia, Canada and South Africa over the last 25 years.

Shifting between places, continents and people he experienced periods of intense loneliness, pleasure and wonder. Being a person often in transit he was placed in the position of observer. Not part of the community he could watch people, their mannerisms, their social engagements, and ponder on the meaning of it all and what it is like to be human.

In 1994 having partly completed his diploma at Claremont School of Art he found his own signature style, which continues to develop, and had his first exhibition.

Now working from his home and studio in Mt Lawley, Western Australia, Oliver creates sculpture and other works reflecting this style.

What interests him most are those archaic experiences we all somehow share. Drawing on a wide vocabulary of artistic style he uses abstract figuration, surrealism, and whimsy, creating pieces that evoke these experiences, and feelings, we have throughout our life's journeys.

Artists in Arms

Oliver is also the founder of the not for profit Foundation ‘Artists in Arms’. ‘Artists in Arms’ charter is to create a community of artists, who support the community by raising money for the support of charities who work with youth in crisis.
