The
WOW Factor
In early December 2001, I set out to create a project that would
give people from outside the arts community the opportunity to be
part of the creation of a major art work. The project was titled
The W.O.W. Factor Standing forWorld, Occcupation, and Wonder.
Twenty-seven people, ranging in age from nine
to seventy two years old had plaster molds taken of their torsos.
These were then be used to cast Ciment Fondue sculptures that depicted
their genetic world.
In addition two photographic studies of each participant
were made. The first study being a black and white image showing
the way they dressed for their occupation. The second image was
a color photograph illustrating their choice of dress as a wonderful
fantasy.
Suzanne Mykolajenko, Rosie Smith, and Michael
Palmer brought their technical expertise to the project as Body
Painter, Body Caster and Photographer respectively and the final
exhibition was shown at Little Creatures Brewery in Fremantle
The project gave the participants the possibility
of exploring what they project by their dress and how that relates
to their self-image. |
